“Sharing Christ and Building Believers”
This question has echoed through human history: If God is good, why does He allow evil and suffering? It’s a question that touches the heart of every believer, especially in a world where pain, injustice, and tragedy seem all too common.
At first glance, it can feel like a contradiction—how can a loving, all-powerful God coexist with so much suffering? But when we look at Scripture and understand God’s nature, the story becomes clearer.
1. God Created a Perfect World with Free Will
In the beginning, God created everything good. Genesis 1:31 tells us:
“God saw all that He had made, and it was very good.”
God gave humanity free will—the ability to choose love, obedience, and righteousness. But with free will comes the possibility to choose evil. When Adam and Eve sinned, they introduced brokenness into what was once perfect (Genesis 3). Evil did not originate from God but entered through human choice.
2. Evil Exists Because of Sin, Not Because God Isn’t Good
Romans 5:12 explains it clearly:
“Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and in this way death came to all people, because all sinned.”
The suffering we see—violence, disease, death, injustice—are consequences of sin, not a lack of God’s goodness. God hates evil and injustice even more than we do. In fact, He sent His own Son to overcome it.
3. God Uses Even Evil for Good
God does not cause evil, but He can bring purpose through pain. One of the most powerful promises in Scripture is found in Romans 8:28:
“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose.”
Think of the story of Joseph. Betrayed by his brothers, sold into slavery, and imprisoned—yet later, Joseph told them,
“You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives.” (Genesis 50:20)
In God’s hands, no pain is wasted.
4. God’s Justice Will Prevail in the End
Although we live in a fallen world, the story isn’t over. God promises that a day is coming when evil will be judged and suffering will cease. Revelation 21:4 gives us this beautiful hope:
“He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”
Until that day, God walks with us through our pain and offers us comfort, peace, and eternal life in Jesus Christ.
Final Thoughts
We may not always understand why certain things happen, but we can be sure of this: God is good, God is just, and God is with us.
In a world filled with chaos, we cling to the cross—where ultimate evil met ultimate love—and remember that our Redeemer is still writing the story.
If you’re struggling with pain, questions, or loss, know that you’re not alone. We at Miracle Chapel are here to pray with you, walk with you, and point you to the One who brings peace in the storm.
